NEW MUSIC: Coldplay, Deftones and more!

It’s been quite a week and if you’re busy like me, you probably never had time to see what new videos/music came out over the past week. But thankfully I love you guys enough to share some of the gems that were released this week. Also, spoiler alert, Zayn Malik’s ‘Pillowtalk’ isn’t featured here.

COLDPLAY

One of the most talked about video’s of the week is Coldplay’s latest video, ‘Hymn For The Weekend’. The song features vocal powerhouse Beyonce (who is seen adorning quite the garish headgear in the video) and while it’s a beautiful celebration of life in India, I feel it trivialises a much revered culture with strategic placement of deities and possibly every Indian stereotype that comes to mind. Sigh. Enough with the exploitation of Holi already.

DEFTONES

Deftones have finally announced a follow up album to their 2012 release, Koi No Yokan. The bands new album will be titled, Gore and has an official release date set for April 8th via Warner Bros. Yesterday the band dropped their first single, ‘Prayers/Triangles’, a dreamlike odyssey of magnificent melancholy and guttural growls . Personally, I can’t wait for the new album.

HALESTORM

Lzzy Hale’s vocal prowess is above exemplary. It’s sublime. Sometimes I often wonder how many cigarettes she has smoked in her lifetime to have developed such a devastatingly enviable rasp to her voice. With that being said, watch the bands latest music video, ‘Mayhem’, below to see what I mean. ‘Mayhem’ is taken off the bands latest release, Into This Wild Life.

TONIGHT ALIVE

Australian punk pop act, Tonight Alive have released, ‘Drive’, their latest single taken off their forthcoming album Limitless. I have to admit, this song is a far cry from singles like ‘Listening’ and ‘The Edge’ (which was featured on The Amazing Spiderman 2 soundtrack). Fans aren’t pleased with the bands new sound but I think it’s fun and this song in particular could fit perfectly in No Doubt’s discography.

ASKING ALEXANDRIA

After Denis Stoff replaced the band’s previous vocalist, Danny Worsnop, AA fans were in disbelief. In short, the end was nigh. But Asking Alexandria have given fans something to look forward to with their latest single, ‘The Black’. This is my favourite release of the week. I can’t stop listening to it! Somebody. Stop. Me. (You read that as Jim Carrey’s The Mask didn’t you?)
